Jerry A. Mcdowell, McDowell Knight founding partner, passes away
Our founding partner, Jerry A. McDowell, passed away on August 7, 2019. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a tremendous mentor, dear friend, and father-figure to many, both inside and outside the legal profession. Jerry received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in 1957, then served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant until 1961, where he flew airplanes and helicopters. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1963, and he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Daniel H. Thomas of the Southern District of Alabama from 1963-1964, when he entered private practice. Over a career approaching 50 years, Jerry established himself as a legendary trial lawyer. He was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, among numerous other professional organizations. Jerry served as president of the Mobile County Bar Association in 1992. All of us, along with those many people whose lives he touched, will miss him.
