SUMMER CLERKSHIP PROGRAM
The primary vehicle for hiring associates is the Firms Summer Clerkship Program. The goal of this program is to provide the clerks with an accurate picture of what it is like to be an associate at McDowell Knight. We attempt to familiarize our clerks with all areas of the Firms practice and the opportunities presented by living in this unique part of the United States. Located on Mobile Bay on Alabamas Gulf Coast, Mobile is a gateway to numerous recreational activities, including excellent golfing, hunting and fishing, and the relaxing beaches of Alabama and Florida.
The Summer Clerkship Program includes a number of social and recreational events designed to acquaint summer clerks with our lawyers and their families. Typical outings include golf, tennis, fishing and beach trips. Our lawyers also entertain clerks in their homes. Additionally, summer clerks develop their skills by working closely with lawyers in the Firm on ongoing matters, performing legal research and writing, and attending depositions, hearings and trials.
First-year students participating in our 2003 summer program will be paid $950.00 per week, and second-year law students will be paid $1,250.00 per week.

"My experience at McDowell Knight Roedder & Sledge was very enjoyable. The clerkship program is well-structured in that it gave me an opportunity to experience what being a lawyer is all about. Observing actual legal proceedings in the company of the experienced lawyers at McDowell Knight Roedder & Sledge provided for a hands-on experience that no law school course could possibly offer. Additionally, the firm's social schedule enables the clerks to interact with and become personally acquanted with the partners as well as the associates. I enjoyed my time at the firm and would highly recommend the firm to all Law school students that are considering a clerkship job offer."
Bennett Long - 2003 Summer Clerk
